See, problem is, Doom is being completely mishandled in this. This does not really fit his personality, especially this early in the game. Further, casting RDA is blatant stunt casting. Most of this strikes as gimmicky hail mary, with none of the craft that made the earlier MCU great. Megapass. Not interested.

It could work, if Doom's wife was also played by Gwyneth. That would set up a love story even more beloved than Steve and Peggy's. At least a chance to rise above slash-fic.

See, that's another thing right there. Doom has no wife. And the woman who motivated much of his concerns and actions was his mother.

Test audiences will be walking out in the middle.

If only there were some way to resurrect Gilbert Gottfried to narrate this disaster, it might stand a chance...on the next reboot of Mystery Science Theater 3500 (inflation, people).

I'm too old for this shit, as a casual it just bends my mind.

On second thought are they gonna go with the direction that makes "Chuds big mad?"

Tee Stoney's avatar

At this point, it is too late for that, too. Most they would call "chuds" don't care, have checked out. There will be funny critiques on Youtube which help content creators pay off houses and cars. And that will be that.

Basically DH covered that and labeled it "engagement."

This sounds way too convoluted to be entertaining

Exactly. There are some stories just so convoluted they can work in a longform medium like an ongoing comic series, but can't work in a shortform medium like movies.

Which is ironic because the MCU took off when they pretty much adopted the golden age comic book business model. (stand alone issues - build up to mega crossovers as a treat)

Hmmm... there's probably a fascinating essay to be written somewhere by someone charting the recent comic book movies to the ages of comic books. This really does feel like we're in the dark age 90s and heading towards a crash but with movies this time.

"If Marvel reduces him to another quipping CG boss fight"

Dr. Doom: Reed's right behind me isn't he?

Steve: He did a reality rewrite? It's a thing now?

I never expected much once RDJ was cast as Doom. The teaser ads that were nothing but 'member berries did not inspire confidence.

Reminds me of a discussion I had about one of the Transfomers movies that had come out and my friend had seen it, he was staggering into our martial arts class looking shell-shocked and overstimulated.

"I hear it was 90 minutes of straight robot fightin' action."

"It was awesome."

So it's always possible to have spectacle overwhelm - but it looks unlikely in this case. They already did Civil War where people got to do clever things with their powers to one another.

I have avoided leaks and rumours for past projects but for some reason my excitement for Doomsday is different. Even if most of what we are hearing is true, I would still be just as excited to see it executed because it sounds like it has been handled with great care and responsibility and creativity that how could it not be good!
